I started to write this post on Monday and just today I got a chance to finish it. I need to start making more time to finish what I have started. I get side tracked easily…LOL Enough of that let’s get to the point, my blog post.

I love meeting other photographers, and connecting with them on a personal level. I also enjoy helping people who want to be photographers. I don’t know everything there is to know about photography, but I am willing to share everything I know. I think that we all should give back in one way or another, and I think this is one of mine. Lend a hand when it needs to be lent. When I first started, I wish I had someone helping me along the way, someone whom I can talk to about my thoughts and questions about photography. I really didn’t have anyone, everything I learned was through reading books, my camera manual, Google, OH and A LOT of practice.

I don’t believe in “competition”! I believe in building a community in which we all help each other achieve our goals and success. I was recently  at an event and there were other photographers, and I didn’t like how I felt. I felt as if I was the trespasser (does that make sense?) I felt as if I was being viewed as competition, and I hated that feeling…I hate that word. I immediately approached them and started talking to them and showing them I am a person who loves photography as well, another person who shares their passion and love for photography. We aren’t here to compete against each other, there is no competition! Success isn’t contingent upon your competition, it’s contingent upon YOU. You are the only person responsible for your success or lack of. I love making friends especially in the same industry, we can talk cameras, speed lights, lens…etc. Cheers to building a community in which we can all help each other, in one way or another. And if you are thinking about photography and have questions shoot me an email. I will try my best to answer your questions. Have a great weekend!

The very first wedding I photographed, the toughest, yet most wonderful wedding. I am so thankful that Tigabi, had faith in me and my work. It wasn’t the easiest experience, but it was indeed a memorable experience. I got the the church at 5:00 am, the ceremony began at 5:30AM and didn’t end until 11:00 am. Yes, a very lengthy ceremony, in a language I didn’t understand. I got there and I didn’t have a clue of what I had to do besides take photos. Where do I stand, where is it ok to stand, can I use my flash, can I move around..some of the many questions going through my mind. As I am walking around and talking photos of the church, I hear a commotion outside, the bride and groom had a arrived. Oh wait, that’s not my bride and groom, OMG am I at the wrong wedding. OH NO! I tried calling my bride, no answer. I then see another photographer, and I run and ask him I am supposed to photograph Tigabi’s wedding, do you know if she is getting married here, he said “yes” there are two weddings today. Wow, for a moment I was feeling horrible, thinking I had mixed up the addresses or something. So I walk back inside the church and walk around and try to see where I should stand to take photos. Then I hear drums and singing and I run out and look for my shoes, (Oh, I forgot to tell you, before you enter the church you have to take off your shoes, so I left my shoes before you enter the temple) and they were GONE. OK, so barefoot it is. I run outside and I rush to take photos of the bride coming out of the car and the guys playing the drums. My photos weren’t that great, the guys were surrounding the bride and groom and wouldn’t let me even take one good shot of her. Well I walked back inside and then there was silence for a long time. I didn’t know what was next. Good thing Biruk was there, this awesome photographer/videographer that helped me out so much, he was hired to do the video for Tigabi’s wedding. What a guy, he really saved me that day. You see even though I had spoke to Tigabi, we had a communication barrier, she hardly spoke English and I didn’t speak Amharic, so we did our best to communicate. So maybe some details were left out along the way, ok maybe a lot of details, but I assure you it was OK. I was so happy to have been given the opportunity to photograph her wedding, such an important event in her life, that I just showed up and figured it out along the way. And the outcome was pretty darn awesome. She was happy with her photos and I was happy that she was happy!

Here are some photos of my very first wedding!

I want to start out by saying that I have lived in Minnesota for 7 years now and I have gone every year since I lived here. I love the fair! It’s fun, it’s full of things to do, it’s full of things to eat and drink, it’s simply amazing. Here a couple of photos I took, because I wanted to share this great experience with you, internet.

How I loved spending time with my family. I am so sad they had to leave, but I had a blast with them. Here are a couple of pictures of our time together, before they had to head back to New Jersey.

Take a moment today and think of what really matters. I think of this everyday and I thank God every day of my life, for having blessed me with such a great family. I am always aware of how lucky I am to have them in my life, without them I wouldn’t be who I am. They make me whole! When I have a really bad day and I feel like coming home and crying all I have to do is look at them and I am instantly reminded that God brought me into their lives for a reason and that they are my happiness. Nothing else matters as long as I have them. My husband Bryce + my son Aiden +my little princess Junieth = my happiness! So remember take a moment and think about the truly important things in life and enjoy them everyday as if tomorrow will never come. Happy Friday and enjoy your weekend!

This weekend I met a really great couple, who are very much in love. Their love is noticeable miles away, the way he looks at her and the way she smiles when he looks at her it just make me smile, too. I love what I do, because I get to see beautiful couples who love each other very much and get to captures those smiles, kisses, hugs and laughs.

This weekend was the weekend to transform our front garden that we had been neglecting for 2.5 years now. The reason why it had been neglected for so long was because neither of us had the experience nor the will to take on such a task. I wanted our front yard to look great, but we didn’t want to pay a pro-landscaping company to do our little garden area. The other option was for us to tackle it ourselves, and we both kinda just put if off. Until we both had enough of all of our neighbors yards looking great and ours being the shabby not-so-great-looking yard. I started to seek opinions and ideas from everyone I knew. I dragged my so kind sister in law whom surprised us at Home Depot while we were picking out our plants to bring home. She was such a great resource, she knows a lot about plants and gardening, bless her heart. Thanks Kelly! You are great!

When we got all of our plants home it was time to see where all of our plants should go. I took this task on and let me tell you since we got so many free Day Lillies, I will be the house known as the ‘Day Lillies House’ on the block. I went from having a big bush of Day Lilies to have a “linear cluster of Day Lillies.”(My husbands reaction to my work of art.) I didn’t have any idea as to what goes where so I was willing to just wing it. And the final product of all that hard work this weekend, paid off. We think it looks great, and you know what, even if it doesn’t we get an A for effort. LOL. This weekend was so much fun, but let me tell you every single muscle in my body is sore, from all the work. I think this means I am extremely out of shape and maybe I should start hitting up the gym soon, or at least go for walks or something. I have posted some pictures of our hard work, let me know if you have any ideas or opinions on what we should add/remove to our garden. I love feedback good or bad. Cheers to our newly found gardening skills. What! Whaat!

Lately I have been spending a TON of time in front of my oh’ so awesome computer. I have a conflict with this though, I don’t really want to spend all that time marketing, emailing, socializing, etc…It’s driving me crazy! I feel like I have so much to do and not enough time in the day to do it all. But I have found the perfect end to my Friday, a bottle of wine and my wonderful husband (who is sitting directly across from me as I write) whom I have missed so much this whole week. So cheers to the end of a crazy, overworked week. And remember no matter how hard it may seem at times your loved ones will always make you happy, NOT the wine 😉

Hello and welcome to my very first blog post. I am new to blogging and I do follow blogs and enjoy reading everyone’s thoughts, opinions and inspirations, so I wanted to get in on the action, too. With that being said, I welcome you to the wonderful, happy, and crazy world of me, Belkis. I was born in Nicaragua, Central America a beautiful country filled with so much culture, family values and a lot of beer and Hipicos. (I’ll explain Hipicos a later) I also am the mother of two wonderful children, Aiden and Junieth and the wife of an amazing man named Bryce Brown. They are my world! They are my number one priority and then comes photography. What can I say I am enamored with my camera and everything that comes along with my passion, photography! So on your marks, get set, Go!
